It's a new year so why not some new art???

I have "avoided" the Christmas season by being in New Mexico with like minded folks who also share in my feelings of over-consumption and the irrational-ness of giving lots of unaffordable things 1 day a year to people (many of whom usually you don't even want to give gifts too...so why do it???) So this year has been spent hanging out, relaxing, site seeing, and of course (although not too much...) making art.

I am at the house of a classmate (and obviously a friend!) from art school. She has an amazing house. And of course, a spectacular view:

Her place in is the desert, views of mountains, cacti, and a few adobe houses. The is a very inspiring place to be. It might be from the fact that it is not that overly inhabited. It may be from all of the ruins from ancient native civilizations that once existed here.

It may just be from the kindness of the natives still living here on the few peublos. I am not sure what it is, but the beauty is inspiring!

I actually didn't not do any art related activities my first 1 1/2 weeks here. But now I have. I have been working on a series of drawings ritual masks. I also have been giving a go in painting oil on paper for a few of these masks. All are works in progress, but I would like to share with you:

I will leave this post now by hope all of us are able to shed our masks and let everyone get to meet the real us... the good, the bad, and even the ugly parts of us!
